Panhandle Spotlight Series
June through August
This summer will be a great one with the partnership of the Panhandle Tourism Marketing Council (PTMC), the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation’s (TPHF) The Musical Drama TEXAS, and KVII to present the Panhandle Spotlight Series. A feature of years past, once again communities of the Panhandle will be honored at a select number of evening performances of The Musical Drama TEXAS. For details, go to the Spotlight page.

Fall Foliage Festival
Canadian’s Fall Foliage Festival arrives every third weekend in October. It’s a beautiful time of the year with lots of activities and attractions. Take a scenic drive to Lake Marvin, located 12 miles from town, and choose from a full menu of activities.
Among the numerous activities one can enjoy at Lake Marvin during Fall Foliage includes Bob’s Critters: Displays with the native animals, fish & birds of Hemphill County, nature games and activities, test your nature knowledge: What’s a native plant? What’s a weed? What’s safe to eat? What not to touch? Make your own nature bouquet to take home. Collect & frame your own nature picture. Nature walks: on the trails and around the Lake cook your own hot dog – we supply all the fixin’s and the fire. Free wagon rides: horse-drawn wagon rides courtesy of Red Hills Express and the Chamber of Commerce. Campfire Saturday Nite – stories, songs & s’mores featuring cowboy songs, our best story tellers, your own stories and roasting marshmallows over the fire. Lake Marvin Lodge Starlight Safari: immediately following Campfire, accompany Bob Rogers on a nighttime creature spotting tour.
Complementing the natural beauty of the area, the weekend offers hiking & biking on the picturesque Canadian River Historic Wagon Bridge and on the trails at Lake Marvin & Black Kettle National Grasslands.
Visitors to Canadian may also enjoy the annual tour of homes, wagon rides, arts & crafts festival, special exhibits at Lake Marvin, special museum exhibits, and as always, nature’s glorious showcase of color. We also encourage our guests to enjoy the special shopping opportunities and activities in the community.

Annual Charles Goodnight Celebration
Held annually in the spring, the Charles Goodnight Celebration features a chuck wagon luncheon, Goodnight lookalike contests and cowboy poet competition. Performances in the Armstrong County Museum’s Gem Theatre provide dramatization of the Charles and Molly Goodnight Story. An area artist is featured in The Armstrong County Museum Art Gallery and admission to the museum is free. The museum features displays of the development of the JA Ranch, Charles Goodnight Hall, and the history of Armstrong County. Texas Presents: Each month the Gem Theatre in Claude, Texas provides family entertainment for patrons of Armstrong County and the Panhandle of Texas. Caprock Roundup Rodeo and Old Settlers Reunion
Held the second weekend in July, this event features a parade, free barbecue, crowning of Miss Armstrong County Queen, little Miss and little Mister Armstrong County. Vendors set up on the square during the event and a theatrical performances are held in the Gem Theatre. Visitors may visit the Armstrong County Museum and Art Gallery, admission free. The ranch rodeo, sponsored by the American Legion, is held at the Bert Wooldridge Arena in the evening and the dance follows at Legion Hall dance pavilion All this in the heart of Charles Goodnight Country, Claude, Armstrong County, Texas.

Dalhart
The XIT Rodeo and Reunion
The XIT Rodeo and Reunion takes place the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday of each August. The event originated when ranch hands from the XIT decided to get together to swap stories and rodeo. Now, the three-day festival features a watermelon feed, pork chops from Premium Standard Farms, and each night the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association is center stage with spectacular competition. On Saturday afternoon the world’s largest free barbeque feeds 20,000 people the best, most tender brisket you have ever tasted with the traditional fixins’ of beans, bread, pickles and slaw. Saturday morning brings a large street parade followed by the growing Fiddler’s Contest at Veteran’s Memorial Park. The contest draws competing fiddlers from several states.
Going strong for more than 70 years, there is fun for adults and kids alike. Each evening’s dance features some of country music’s most famed entertainers. Downtown Block Party.
Held annually the 3rd Saturday in September in the heart of Dalhart, with food, fun and entertainment. Downtown Dalhart is closed off each year in September for the this annual event where food, game and novelty booths line the streets of Downtown Dalhart. Part of the event includes inflatable activities on the courthouse lawn and live entertainment. The fun begins around 4:00 in the afternoon and continues until well after dark. Turkey
Bob Wills Day
On the last Saturday of April every year, thousands of people flock to the tiny West Texas town of Turkey Texas. Normally, the population is near 500, but this celebration draws thousands of fans from all over the world. A weekend-long event, many of the remaining Texas Playboys attend to play authentic western swing music and to share their recollections of making musical history with Bob Wills.
The day includes a parade, BBQ lunch, old fiddlers contest, afternoon program and Saturday night dance. Many artisans are present to show and sell their wares.

Quitaque, Texas
The Caprock Canyon Enduro
(Sponsored by The Post Enduro Association)
The Post Enduro Association (PEA) is a family-oriented non profit off-road motorcycle and 4-wheeler club. PEA leases property around the Quitaque community for the purpose of riding and camping. It promotes and encourages the sport of off-road motorcycling riding through the growth of membership. In addition, PEA conducts an annual enduro event sanctioned by both the TSCEC and RMEC. You may have heard of it: The Caprock Canyon Enduro.
Memberships and the Enduro provide the funds necessary to lease the land members can access throughout the year. PEA also provides a camping area where RVs can remain on site year round, if necessary. Electricity and water are available within this designated camping area.
The PEA is governed by a set of Bylaws, Board of Directors and Club Officers. It conducts monthly meetings for the purpose of conducting club business and general club fellowship. The club’s sole purpose is to participate in and provide a safe and fun place for members to enjoy the great outdoors while on top of a dirt bike or 4-wheeler.
The nearby city of Quitaque, has a couple of great restaurants, a grocery store, a hardware store, churches, gasoline, propane, etc. They’re located within 5 miles of the PEA camp.

Borger High School Auditorium
Tri-City Concert Association
Tri-City Concert Association brings live, professional entertainment to the Borger High School Auditorium several times a year. A season membership allows ticket holders to also attend concerts in Pampa and Plainview.
The next Tri-City Concert in Borger will be Jan. 5, 2008 featuring “Texas Stars”, folks who have grown up in the Panhandle and are pursing music either as a career or an avocation.
The final 2008 concert in Borger will feature Pianist Angela Jia Kim on February 12, 2008, 7:30 p.m. in the Borger High School Auditorium.
Remaining Pampa concerts: At M. K. Brown Auditorium in Pampa – “Saxaphobia” appearing March 31, 2008, 7:30 p.m. and “Revolution: A Tribute to the Beatles” on May 6, 2008, 7:30.
Remaining Plainview concerts: Iin the Wayland Baptist Aud., Angela Jia Kim, painist on Feb. 11, “On Broadway”, March 10, 2008 and “Presidio Brass” April 6, 2008.
Admission to concerts is by season ticket purchased from Tri-City Concert Assoc., Pampa Concert Assoc. or Plainview Concert Association. All three venues sell individual concerts at the door on the day of the concert.
